Auburn Doubledays News Release

AUBURN, NY - For the second night in a row, the Black Bears offense and starting pitching was too much to handle as Auburn fell 8-5.

Dario Agrazal started for West Virginia and was briliant. He went six innings and gave up just one run on six hits while walking one and striking out none.

The Black Bears jumped on the board first when Ty Moore hit a two-run moon shot of a home run over the right field wall. West Virginia added two more in the second thanks to a double by Albert Baur, a walk for Daniel Arribas, and three wild pitches from the Doubledays starter Jefry Rodriguez.

Rodriguez tossed four innings as Auburn's starter and gave up four runs on three hits. He also walked four and struck out four.

Auburn scored its first run in the third after Luis Guzman tripled into the right corner and Ian Sagdal brought him in with a sacrifice fly to left.

It was a quiet and quick fourth, fifth, and sixth innings until both offenses woke up in the seventh. The Bears scored a run in the seventh off a single, walk, and sacrifice bunt. The Doubledays resoinded with a run in the bottom of the seventh thanks to two walks and a hit by pitch.

In the top of the eighth, the Black Bears roared once again and scored three runs on four singles and a passed ball.

Down six in the ninth, Auburn didn't go away quietly. Two singles, a walk, and a double allowed the Doubledays to score three runs. With a runner on first and just one out though, Matthew Page struck out and David Kerian flew out to right to end the came and the comeback.

On a separate note, Andrew Stevenson, the first player the Washington Nationals drafted in the 2015 MLB Draft when they selected him 58th overall, made his debut today. He went 2-5 with two singles and one run batted in.

Auburn looks to take its momentum from the ninth into tomorrow's game three. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
