BROOKLYN, NY - The Connecticut Tigers (2-6) fell on Friday night to the Brooklyn Cyclones (5-3) by a final score of 4-1.
On a beautiful night in Brooklyn the Tigers struck first. Left fielder Victor Padron led off the game with a single and third basemen Jose Zambrano quickly following with a bunt single to put runners on first and second with nobody out. The two where still there with two outs when Connecticut was again the benefactor of a wacky play. After multiple pick off attempts to second base Brooklyn starting pitching Gabby Almonte threw the ball off the helmet of Padron and the ball caromed into centerfield allowing Padron to score making it 1-0 Connecticut.
After the rocky first Almonte (1-1) settled down and pitched well for the remainder of his outing. Connecticut only had two runners reach third base following that first inning. Almonte ended up working six innings and scattering five hits.
Brooklyn was able to tie the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the second off Connecticut starter Eudis Idrogo (1-1). With one out Cyclones first basemen Michael Katz doubled. He would come around to score a short time later after he stole third and the throw went into left field.
The game remained tied until the fourth and that is when Brooklyn took the lead for good. Right fielder Michael Bernel started things with a single and moved to second on a balk. The next batter third basemen Daniel Thompson drove him in with a single that gave Brooklyn the lead at 2-1. Up next was Katz and he put the game away with a two-run homer moving the score to 4-1.
Connecticut never threatened again as three Brooklyn relievers shut the door on the Tigers. Alex Palsha pitched the ninth to record his second save of the season.
The Connecticut Tigers are the New York-Penn League affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play a 76 game schedule that runs from mid June through early September. 2015 season tickets, group tickets, mini plans, individual game tickets, and team merchandise are now on sale!
