Trenton Thunder News Release

(Altoona, PA) - The Altoona Curve (49-62) used eighteen hits on Friday night to beat the Trenton Thunder (57-55) 8-2 in game one of a three-game set in Altoona. Melky Mesa hit his fifth homerun of the season, but the Curve scored the game's final six runs to send the Thunder to their fifth-straight loss. After posting a 10-19 record in the month of July, the Thunder are now out to an 0-4 start in the month of August.

The only offensive production for Trenton on Friday night came in the top of the fourth inning. With no one on base and one out, Melky Mesa hammered a ball over the fence in left field for his fifth homerun of the season. Later in the frame with two outs, Damon Sublett singled and Jose Gil walked to put runners at first and second base. Addison Maruszak then lined a single to right field to score Damon Sublett, who barely beat a throw to home, and the score was tied 2-2.

The rest of the contest belonged to Altoona, though. Curve starter Kyle McPherson then retired ten straight Thunder hitters, and his offense was in the process of scoring six unanswered runs. McPherson finished the outing hurling seven strong innings to pick up the win, his sixth of the year. McPherson out-dueled Thunder starter Steve Garrison, who allowed three runs in five innings to record his eighth loss of the season.

The middle game of the three-game set between the Thunder and the Curve in Altoona will take place on Saturday night at 7:00 PM from Blair County Ballpark. Trenton will send RHP Craig Heyer (8-6, 3.94) to the mound, while the Curve will counter with RHP Aaron Pribanic (7-9, 4.38). The SBLI Pre-Game Show with Hank Fuerst and Ben Youngerman begins at 6:45 PM. Tune-in to the game on 91.3 WTSR and online at trentonthunder.com.
