Curve Lights out in Win over 'Ducks, Follow with Finale Loss

AKRON, Ohio - The Altoona Curve clinched a series win with a 10-2 win on Wednesday in the completion of Tuesday night's game, and they followed with a 5-1 loss to the Akron RubberDucks to close out the series.

The Curve (53-46) picked up a game in the standings on the first-place RubberDucks (61-42) over the three-game set.

Game 1: Completion of game from 7/24

The Curve cruised to a 10-2 win behind a four-hit game by Will Craig in a game that began on Tuesday night and concluded on Wednesday afternoon.

With six runs in the seventh inning, the Curve took the lead and pulled away from the RubberDucks. Craig started the inning with a homer off of Akron starter Sean Brady (Loss, 5-6), his 17th of the season, to tie the score at 2-2.

Later in the inning, with rehabbing Indians pitcher Andrew Miller on the mound, Stephen Alemais hit an RBI single and Cole Tucker brought in a run with a sacrifice fly. After Miller left the game, Bryan Reynolds drove a two-run single and Craig followed with an RBI double to cap a six-run inning with 12 Curve batters coming to the plate.

Christian Kelley scored on an error in the top of the eighth inning before play was halted in the bottom of the eighth when a power outage in downtown Akron cut off the stadium's lights.

When play resumed on Tuesday afternoon, Logan Sendelbach stranded a pair of Akron baserunners in the top of the eighth. He finished his outing with three strikeouts over two scoreless innings.

Logan Hill added a two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning to extend the lead to 10-2.

Altoona opened the scoring in the first inning with an RBI double by Craig. He finished the game 4-for-4 with a homer, two doubles and three RBIs. It was the first four-hit game of his career.

Akron tied the game in the bottom of the first with a solo homer by Ka'ai Tom. They game stayed even at 1-1 until a go-ahead double by Daniel Salters put the RubberDucks ahead, 2-1, in the fifth inning.

The six runs scored by the Curve in the seventh inning tied the most runs in a single frame by the Altoona offense this season.

Curve starter Luis Escobar (Win, 2-0) allowed two runs over six innings in his second Double-A outing.

Game 2

The RubberDucks jumped out to an early lead and beat the Curve, 5-1, to avoid being swept.

Tyler Krieger hit a two-run double in the second inning against Curve starter Cam Vieaux (Loss, 6-2). The RubberDucks added three runs in the fifth inning, a two-run double by Bobby Bradley and an RBI double by Willie Castro, to open the lead to 5-0.

Altoona scored its lone run in the sixth with an RBI single by Logan Hill.

Vieaux allowed a Double-A-high five runs over 4.2 innings.

Akron starter Triston McKenzie (Win, 5-2) allowed one run over 5.1 innings with five strikeouts.

With the series concluded, Akron leads the Curve by six games in the Western Division standings.

The Curve open a four-game home series against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies on Thursday night. Right-hander Austin Coley (1-0, 4.15) is scheduled to start for Altoona. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Peoples Natural Gas Field.

Thursday's game features a spectacular fireworks show. It will also be Thirstday, presented by Q94, with $2 16 oz. Yuengling drafts and regular-size sodas, plus $1 Juniata by Kunzler-brand hot dogs.
