WP: Triston McKenzie (5-2) LP: Cam Vieaux (6-2) Save: None

Summary

Two-run doubles by Tyler Krieger and Bobby Bradley provided enough offense for Akron starter Triston McKenzie to lead the RubberDucks to a 5-1 win over the Altoona Curve during Wednesday afternoon's regularly-scheduled game at Canal Park. That followed the completion of Tuesday night's game, which was resumed with Altoona leading 8-2 in the bottom of the 8th inning, and the Curve would finish that game off with a 10-2 win.

Turning Point

Tyler Krieger's two-out, two-run double in the second inning gave Akron a lead it wouldn't lose. Dorssys Paulino led off the inning with a walk and Sam Haggerty moved him to second with a single. Logan Ice flew out to center field, advancing Paulino to third base. Haggerty would then steal second base during Ka'ai Tom's at-bat, which was a strikeout, setting up Krieger who drove one over the leftfielder's head, scoring Paulino and Haggerty.

Mound Presence

Triston McKenzie improved to 5-2, allowing one run on three hits in 5.1 innings pitched. He walked three, struck out five and hit a batter. The lone run allowed came in the sixth inning after surrendering a leadoff double to Bryan Reynolds and then fanning Will Craig, Logan Hill singled off reliever Jordan Milbrath to score Reynolds. It was one of the few problems Milbrath had on the day, because he settled in to throw 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing two hits, walking a batter and striking out three. Cole Sulser replaced Milbrath and threw a 1-2-3 ninth inning, which included a strikeout.

Duck Tales

The RubberDucks (61-42) lashed 10 hits, including the pair of two-run doubles by Krieger and Bradley, who added his in the three-run Akron fifth inning. Tom, Krieger and Haggerty finished with two hits apiece. Krieger finished 2-for-4 with 2 RBI, a run scored and now has a 19-game hitting streak.

Notebook

The RubberDucks snapped a two-game skid to the Curve and avoided the sweep with Wednesday's win and finished the homestand 5-2. The RubberDucks are now 9-10 vs. Altoona in 2018 and the team has won 10 of 14 since the All-Star Break... Krieger went 2-for-4 and now has a 19-game hitting streak dating back to 7/2 (28-for-78, .359), the longest in the Eastern League in 2018. Ka'ai Tom is now 11-for-25 (.440) over his last eight games (since 7/17) with 4 HR, 7 RBI and raised his season average from .220 to .236. Since Cole Sulser was received from Columbus on July 12, he is 3-0 with five scoreless outings, allowing just three hits while issuing no walks and striking out 13 in 7.2 innings pitched...Time of game: 2:38. Attendance: 7,778 (sellout number seven in 2018).

On the Pond

The RubberDucks will travel to the Erie SeaWolves for a four-game series running Thursday through Sunday before returning to Canal Park on July 31. It will be the first of three trips Akron will make to Erie over the remainder of the season. The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM, the WARF iHeart channel, and the TuneIn Radio App.
