New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Reading, PA - Powered by Cavan Biggio's two-run homer and a three-run eighth inning, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Toronto Blue Jays Double-A affiliate) won the series finale over the Reading Fightin' Phils (Philadelphia Phillies) 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Reading took a 1-0 lead in the first inning with Damek Tomscha's third homer in as many games, but Cavan Biggio responded with a two-run blast to give New Hampshire a 2-1 advantage.
Biggio's 21st home run moved him into a tie for the Eastern League lead with Akron's Bobby Bradley. The Fisher Cats single-season home run record is 27, held by Chip Cannon (2006) and Eric Thames (2010).
The Fightin Phils tied the game at 2-2 when Jan Hernandez homered off Tayler Saucedo to start the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Fisher Cats took the lead for good in the eighth inning.
With the game still even, Eduard Pinto reached on walk to start the rally and Jon Berti stole second and moved to third on a throwing error after pinch running. He scored on a passed ball to make it 3-2. Cavan Biggio walked, Vlad Guerrero Jr. singled and Harold Ramirez singled home a run. Juan Kelly and Santiago Espinal then drew bases loaded walks to give New Hampshire a 5-2 lead.
Dusty Isaacs (W, 3-2), who came on in relief of Tayler Saucedo, retired all five batters he faced and earned the win. Travis Bergen (S, 5) recorded the final five outs for his fifth save. Saucedo had a quality start, allowing two runs over six innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out two.
Guerrero finished 2-for-4 with a run scored, and Ramirez went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Up next for the Fisher Cats is a four game series at Hartford's Dunkin' Donuts Park starting with a game on Thursday at 7:05 p.m.
RHP Jon Harris (7-4, 4.92) is scheduled to pitch the opener for New Hampshire against RHP Jesus Tinoco (6-8, 5.44) for the Yard Goats. Coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network.
The Fisher Cats return home to play Richmond on Tuesday, July 31 at 7:05 p.m. Join us as we recognize participants in the 2018 Grappone Automotive Summer Reading All-Stars program! For tickets and information, visit nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005.
