Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA - With former United States President Jimmy Carter in attendance, the Altoona Curve were able to comeback yet again scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to steal a 4-3 win on Tuesday night at Blair County Ballpark.
Carter observed the game from a Sky Box at BCB. Carter was one of 5, 524 Curve fans that was treated to the Curve scoring a pair of runs in their last turn at bat. In the bottom of the eighth, in what appeared to be an attempt at a suicide squeeze, with Shelby Ford breaking from third base towards home plate, Milver Reyes hit a check-swing ground ball to first base that allowed the Curve to score the decisive run.
Earlier in the inning, the Curve used a pair of triples to draw within one run. Anthony Webster tripled to lead off the frame. One batter later, Ford himself hit a three-bagger to bring the Curve within one at 4-3, which set the stage for Reyes.
The Curve (30-37) held the lead for most of the contest. An early pair of runs in the top of the first inning put Altoona ahead 2-0 until Reading scored three unanswered runs. The R-Phils scrapped out a run in the top of the sixth off of starter Yoslan Herrera to cut the Curve lead in half, 2-1.
Herrera tossed six solid innings and allowed just the one run while he scattered six hits and struck out a pair.
Jeff Sues came on to toss 1 2/3 innings and surrendered a pair of runs on a pair of hits before being relieved by Ronald Belisario (2-1) who allowed just one hit over the span of 1 1/3 innings.
Chris Duffy started his second consecutive game for the Curve on his rehab assignment and played through the fifth inning. Duffy went 1-for-3 and scored the first Curve run of the contest.
Altoona will take on the R-Phils on Wednesday as part of a twinight double-header at BCB. The first contest is set to begin at 5:35 p.m. with Curve right-hander Josh Hill (4-7, 4.20) set to toe the rubber in the first contest for Altoona. He'll be opposed by righty Travis Minix (1-1, 1.80). In the nightcap, lefty Corey Hamman will start for the Curve, while Reading will counter with Kip Bouknight (3-7, 6.23).
Wednesday the Curve is offering half-priced Curve Burgers and will salute all public figures and their famous snafus on "You Got Caught Night." Wednesday will also serve as a Giant Eagle Advantage Card Night. Fans can purchase one outfield reserve seat at regular price and receive a second one free when showing a Giant Eagle Advantage Card at the BCB ticket window. Fans can get their tickets by calling 877-99-CURVE, online at AltoonaCurve.com or in person at the BCB box office.
