New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Manchester, NH- J.P Arencibia, making his Eastern League debut, went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs, and Ryan Patterson went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats held off a late Connecticut Defenders' comeback bid to take a 6-5 victory before 3,217 fans at Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Tuesday night.

Travis Snider (1-for-4, HR, RBI) became the first Fisher Cats' player to hit safely in 10 consecutive games this season when he belted his 10th home run of the season, a solo shot off Connecticut reliever Dave McKae with two outs in the seventh inning that landed on the access road in right, giving New Hampshire (25-44) a 6-4 lead.

Connecticut (31-37) trimmed the deficit to 6-5 in the top of the eighth inning when Eddy Martinez-Esteve (1-for-4, HR, RBI) tagged a Jamie Vermilyea offering into the patio in left-centerfield for his third homer of the season. Vermilyea was lifted one batter later when Olmo Rosario (2-for-4, 2B, RBI) doubled to deep left field.

Zach Dials came out of the bullpen to strike out Dave Maroul (1-for-4, R) and Simon Klink (0-for-4, RBI) to end the eighth inning. The right-hander then pitched a perfect ninth inning to notch his ninth save of the year.

Ricky Romero (3-4) earned the victory for the Fisher Cats. The left-hander held Connecticut to one hit through the first six scoreless innings before the Defenders fought back from a 5-0 deficit with four runs on five hits and a Fisher Cats' error in the top of the seventh inning. Rosario and Jake Wald (1-for-4, RBI) had run-scoring singles, Klink drove in a run with a sharp grounder that went as an error on New Hampshire third baseman Anthony Hatch and Ben Copeland (1-for-4, SF, RBI) hit a sacrifice fly.

Vermilyea induced an inning-ending ground out from Travis Ishikawa (1-for-3, BB, R) with the bases loaded to preserve a 5-4 lead.

Romero pitched 6.2 innings, allowing four runs -three earned- on six hits. He struck out five and walked one to register his first win since May 14, also against Connecticut.

The Fisher Cats took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning against losing pitcher Paul Oseguera when Jacob Butler (0-for-3, BB, R) walked and scored when Arencibia laced a double to the right-centerfield gap in his first Double-A at-bat.

New Hampshire jumped on Oseguera (1-2) again in the bottom of the fifth inning with four runs. Hatch (0-for-2, BB, R) and Chris Gutierrez (0-for-2, BB, R) drew back-to-back walks and scored on Patterson's second double of the game, a shot into the left-centerfield gap for a 3-0 lead. Arencibia followed with a two-run double of his own off McKae that scored Aaron Mathews (1-for-4, R), who singled, and Patterson for a 5-0 lead.

The Fisher Cats look to make it back-to-back victories when right-hander Scott Richmond (4-7, 5.52) bids to become the team's first five-game winner Wednesday night at 7:05pm against Connecticut righty Joey Martinez (3-5, 1.90), who leads the Eastern League with a 1.90 ERA. Radio coverage begins at 6:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman and Mike Murphy.

The first 2,000 fans at Merchantsauto.com Stadium for Wednesday night's 7:05pm game will receive free Mt. Washington Assurance Fisher Cats Bucket Hats. To purchase tickets, call (603) 641-2005 or visit www.nhfishercats.com.
