Altoona Curve News Release

ALTOONA- Former United States President Jimmy Carter was among the 5,524 fans on hand at Blair County Ballpark Tuesday evening to watch the Altoona Curve earn a come-from-behind, 4-3 win over the Reading Phillies. Carter quietly enjoyed the game with his wife, Rosalynn, from one of the ballpark's luxury skyboxes.

Carter is a frequent visitor to Central Pennsylvania, often taking fishing trips to nearby Spruce Creek in Huntingdon County. He is the first former U.S. President to visit Blair County Ballpark. Current Vice President Dick Cheney was among the 9,163 fans in attendance for the Curve's July 4, 2004 game at BCB. Cheney tossed out the ceremonial first pitch and addressed the crowd before watching the game from the skybox of former PA State Senator Robert Jubelirer.

The 39th President of the United States, Carter held the Oval Office from 1977-81. Prior to becoming president, Carter served two terms in the Georgia Senate and as the 76th Governor of Georgia, from 1971 to 1975. After leaving office, Carter and his wife Rosalynn founded the Carter Center, an institute to promote global health, democracy and human rights. He has traveled extensively to conduct peace negotiations and establish relief efforts. He is also a key figure in the Habitat for Humanity project. Carter was the recipient of the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize.

The Curve will continue their week-long homestand at Blair County Ballpark Wednesday evening with a 5:35 p.m. doubleheader against the Reading Phillies. Great seats remain for Wednesday's twinbill and can be purchased by calling (877) 99-CURVE or on-line at AltoonaCurve.com.
