Lake Erie Crushers News Release

LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Lake Erie Crushers erased a pair of three-run deficits on Sunday afternoon, as they wrapped up their six game road trip by taking the rubber match at Riverhawks Stadium, with a 12-10 victory over Rockford.

The Crushers (4-5) registered season highs with 12 runs and 18 hits, to win their fourth game of the trip, while the Riverhawks (2-7) suffered their sixth loss in their last seven games.

Rockford got on the board first for the second night in a row. In the second inning, Matt Greener's sacrifice fly scored Devin Shepherd, and Elvin Millan Jr. followed with a run scoring single.

The Crushers answered with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth to tie things up. Robbie Kuzdale drove in the first run on a sacrifice fly, and Rogelio Noris tied the game with an RBI single.

The two teams would go back and forth the rest of the contest. Rockford plated three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take their second lead of the game. Javier Herrera belted his first of three RBI doubles to plate the first run, and he came home moments later on Michael Hur's two-run blast.

The Crushers responded with four runs in the fifth inning to take their first lead of the contest. Adrian Ortiz and Brandon Decker registered back-to-back base hits, setting up Andrew Davis's first homer of the season, a three-run shot that tied the game. Russ Moldenhauer walked moments later, and scored the go ahead run on a wild pitch.

Rockford came right back to take the lead with a three run fifth inning. Jet Butler began the inning with a solo homer, and Shepherd scored on a wild pitch, before Herrera drilled his second RBI double of the contest.

Lake Erie then sent 10 batters to the plate, and took the lead for good with a five-run sixth inning. Davis drove in the first two runs on a base hit, and Jason Taylor followed with a run scoring single. The game was tied at 9-9, when Rogelio Noris belted a two-run double with two outs to put the Crushers on top.

Herrera knocked in Rockford's final run on a double in the sixth inning, and Kuzdale smashed his first homerun of the season in the top of the eighth to cushion Lake Erie's lead.

Ben Klafczynski (1-0) secured the victory, after allowing just a run on a hit over two and a third innings of relief. Jonathan Kountis (3) secured his third save of the road trip, by tossing two scoreless innings of relief.

Seven players reached multiple times in the contest, and four players hit safely at least three times. Noris paced the Crushers, with a 4-for-5 performance and drove in three runs, while Davis went 3-for-6 with five RBI. Adrian Ortiz also recorded a trio of hits, while Brandon Decker scored twice, reached four times and went 3-for-5 in the contest.

Davis went 8-for-15 in the series, and drove in six runs. Kuzdale drove in six runs in the series as well, and Decker went 7-for-15 against the Riverhawks, scoring four times in the process.

The Crushers are off on Monday, but will begin a three game series with the Joliet Slammers, at All Pro Freight Stadium on Tuesday morning. Left hander Paul Fagan (1-1, 2.25) will start for the Crushers. The first pitch is scheduled for 10:35 AM.
