Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums rallied from a 4-1 sixth inning deficit to tie the game at 4-4, but it wasn't enough as the Beach Bums fell 6-4 to the Windy City ThunderBolts on Sunday night.
Behind by that three-run score in the sixth, Chase Burch singled with one out. Jeff Flagg stepped in a drove a Stephen Sauer pitch to the left of the flagpole in centerfield to chop the lead to 4-3.
TC wasn't done with the power yet. On a night where fans received thundersticks at Wuerfel Park, the Beach Bums Jon Hurst broke out some thunder of his own, hitting his first professional homer to leftfield to tie the game at 4-4. A win was not in the offing for Traverse City, however. Windy City would get a pair of runs on a Matt Grosso double in the eighth to create the final score.
The win went to Andy Mee (2-0), despite Mee allowing the tying homer. Matt Miller (1-1) took the loss for Traverse City. Tyson Corley notched his third save.
The scoring in the game was started as the two teams traded runs in the third inning. After the ThunderBolts scored a run in the top of the frame on a Chad Cregar RBI single, the Beach Bums came back with a run in the bottom of the inning as Brian Heere led off with a single followed by a Kyle Colligan double. Two batters later, Burch scored Heere on a groundout to third. Windy City would add an unearned run in the fourth and two in the sixth to open a 4-1 lead.
Offensively for Traverse City, Burch and Flagg had two hits each. The two hits leave Burch just 11 shy of joining Steve Young, Matt Brown and J. T. Hall as the only players in Beach Bums history with 200 in a career.
Traverse City now heads out on the road for six games starting with a three game set at West Division leading River City. Lefthander David Deminsky will start on Tuesday night for Traverse City against righty Brad Stillings for the Rascals. Coverage on Sunny Country 101.9 begins at 7:45 p.m. outside of an 8:05 scheduled first pitch.
