Miners Lose Finale in Normal

Normal, IL - The Miners got a piece of their own medicine as the CornBelters defeated the Miners 9-1. Starter Thomas Campbell had a rough go of it early on against the CornBelters. Campbell, making his only second start all spring got roughed up in 2 and 2/3 innings pitched. He allowed five runs off eight hits, walked three and struck out one.

The Miners had a tough time at the plate as CornBelters starter Daniel Britt pitched well through 6 and 1/3 innings pitched. He gave up three hits, allowed one run and struck out four. The only run he gave up was a sacrifice fly by Jake Kaase in the top of the sixth inning.

Darrin Tew threw 3 and 1/3 innings. He didn't allow a hit, struck out two and walked two. Casey Fry threw an inning for the Miners. He got roughed up as he gave up five hits and allowed four runs.

Albert Ayala threw one inning and gave up one walk. The Miners take the series from Normal, two games to one.

The Miners are off tomorrow but will begin a six game home-stand on Tuesday as they welcome in the Florence Freedom. LHP Brian Fowler will be on the mound for the Miners. He'll be opposed by RHP Sean Gregory. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 at Rent One Park.
