Rascals Win Seventh-Straight

Washington, Pa. - Gerardo Avila tied the game with his first homerun of the season in the eighth inning and Kyle Jones tripled in Avila in the tenth as the Rascals swept the WildThings and picked up their seventh-straight win.

River City (8-1) took a 1-0 lead on a Jeremy Synan homerun in the first but Washington plated a run in the first to tie it up, but left the bases loaded for the first of three times tonight.

The Rascals got the run back in the second inning after Chris Andreas led off with a double and scored on an error for a 2-1 lead.

Washington (5-4) tied the game in the third on four singles but stranded the bases loaded before taking a 3-2 lead in the fourth that would stand until the eighth.

Washington starter Casey Barnes was lifted after seven innings of four hit ball on six strikeouts in favor of Nathan Striz who had his first pitch lifted over the wall in left-center to tie the game at three.

After a tough start from Don Lisi, the Rascals bullpen of Justin Gill, Nate Kennedy, Brandon Cunniff, and Dustin Umberger held the WildThings to two hits over the final six innings with Cunniff getting out of a bases loaded jam in the ninth with back-to-back strikeouts.

Avila reached base in the tenth with one out on a broken bat single, and with two outs, Jones ripped a pitch to left-center for the game-winning triple in his first professional start before Umberger set the WildThings down in order for his fourth save in as many chances.

After an off-day Monday, the Rascals begin a six-game homestand Tuesday night against the Traverse City Beach Bums.
