London Rippers News Release
LONDON, ONTARIO - Four home runs carried Gateway to a series win over London, blowing out the Rippers 11-1.
London starter, Justin Mazur couldn't get out of the 2nd inning, giving up a solo home run to John Shelby in the first inning and then 4 runs in two-thirds of the second.
The four run inning was highlighted by Richie Jimenez Jr.'s three-run homer. John Shelby, Jon Myers and Chris McClendon hit the other homers in the Gateway victory.
Matt Schimpf got the final out of the 2nd and went three more innings, giving up two runs in the 5th inning. He struck out four and walked one.
The only run London put on the board was a solo home run by Mark Samuelson in the bottom of the 2nd inning, his first homer of the year.
Only Samuelson, Tony Delmonico and Joash Brodin managed hits against Gateway starter, Jonathon Gonzalez. The team finished with five for the game.
Gonzalez did not give up a hit after the 3rd inning and retired 13 of his last 14 opponents.
Gateway put up three more in the 8th after Rob Chamra did not retire a batter in his appearance, giving up the Myers homer, a walk, a single and an RBI double, as Gateway extended their lead to 10-1.
After an off day tomorrow, London faces another 6-game road trip, travelling to Schaumburg and Rockford.
The Rippers will return home on June 5th to start a 6-game set at Labatt Park.
