Crunch score late, down Bears 2-1 in Syracuse

The BEARS had a chance to climb within two points of first place Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, but could not take advantage as Syracuse wins 2-1 at the War Memorial.

Syracuse took a 1-0 lead to intermission when Joe Motzko scored a power play goal at the 11:14 mark of the first period. Motzko was able to put home a rebound off a Mark Hartigan shot and pick up his 16th goal of the season. HERSHEY and the Crunch each fired 11 shots in the first period, but Syracuse took the lead to the dressing room. The period featured three fights, two involving Louis Robitaille.

Neither team could score in the second period, and the Crunch carried a 1-0 lead into the third period. HERSHEY finally got on the board when Boyd Gordon scored his 13th of the season at 6:40 on the power play, but Syracuse would get the game-winner late when Marc Methot scored at 18:23. The BEARS remain four points behind first place Wilkes-Barre/Scranton with 18 games remaining.
