Bulldogs bite Barons, 3-0

CLEVELAND, OH -- Peter Vandemeer scored two goals leading the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 3-0 win at Cleveland on Friday night. The Barons failed to convert a power play goal on nine chances as they dropped to 2-3-0-0 against their North Division rivals this year.

After more than a forty minute delay due to unplayable ice conditions the Barons and Bulldogs skated against each other for the first time since December 22nd. Hamilton scored the game's opening two goals completing the first period with a 2-0 advantage. Peter Vandermeer, who would earn a goal and assist during the period scored the game's opening tally at the 4:38 mark with the help of Maxime Lapierre and Dan Smith. Cory Locke then extended the lead to 2-0 with his 15th goal of the season on an assist from Andrei Kostitsyn and Vandermeer.

The same score in the game remained after a scoreless second period. The Barons dominated the session, outshooting Hamilton 11-7 in the period, but failing to score in four power play tries. Jaroslav Halak, making his third consecutive appearance for Hamilton made all 20-saves through the first two periods for a 2-0 lead.

Peter Vandemeer wrapped up a season best three-point night with his second goal of the game leading the Bulldogs to a 3-0 win. Jaroslav Halak handled all five shots in the period for Hamilton earning his second shutout of the year with 25-saves total. The Barons failed on two more power play chances in the third period finishing the evening 0 for 9 on the power play.

Tomorrow night the Bulldogs and Barons face off at 7pm. The first 3,000 fans at tomorrow's game receive a bobblehead doll of Barons defenseman Matt Carkner. Cox Communications' is also presenting an appearance from cartoon character Jimmy Neutron. Tickets for Saturday's action are on sale now at the Quicken Loans Arena Box Office and are available for as inexpensive as $9 per ticket.
