Vandermeer, Halak Lead 'Dogs Past Barons

Cleveland, OH - Bulldogs forward Peter Vandermeer scored two goals and added one assist, while goaltender Jaroslav Halak stopped all 25 shots he faced as Hamilton defeated the Cleveland Barons 3-0 on Friday night at Quicken Loans Arena. It was Halak's second shutout in his last three games, and his third win in only his fourth career AHL start. The win improves the Bulldogs record to 28-33-0-3.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring just 4:38 into the opening frame when Vandermeer scored his fourth goal of the season. At the 8:15 mark, Corey Locke picked up the puck in the low slot, made a move to the left and fired a shot that beat Barons goaltender Dimitri Patzold to give Hamilton a 2-0 lead. Vandermeer and Andrei Kostitsyn earned the assists.

The second period was scoreless with Cleveland out-shooting Hamilton 11-7.

Vandermeer rounded out the scoring when he potted his second goal of the game at 8:08 of the third period. Locke and Pierre Dagenais collected the assists.

Halak was named the game's third star; Patzold made 18 saves.

Hamilton was 0 for 5 on the power play while Cleveland went 0 for 9.

The Bulldogs battle the Barons again tomorrow, Saturday, March 4. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The Bulldogs next home game is Friday, March 10th when the Manitoba Moose visit Copps Coliseum. Game time is 7:30 p.m. This game can be seen live on Hamilton's Cable 14.
