Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI - If getting a win after working hard is sweet, then the Admirals 3-2 win over the Rochester Americans on Friday night was a banana split.
Libor Pivko's goal at 1:32 of overtime capped a hard-fought, come-from-behind victory and gave the Admirals their second win of the week. Center Kris Beech fell down as he was trying to control the puck just inside the Admirals blueline, but was still able to find Sheldon Brookbank. Brookbank drove hard to the net and then dumped it out in front for Pivko who cashed in with his second goal of the game.
Pivko's heroics were only possible because of Chris Durno's game-tying goal with under five minutes to go in the game. Forward Rich Peverley circled the net and his backhander was denied by Rochester goalie Mika Noranen. But Noranen was unable to control the rebound and Durno slid the puck by him for the game-tying score.
Pivko two goals paced the Milwaukee offense, while Kevin Klein and Beech both chipped in two assists. Brian Finley made 28 saves for the Admirals, including some clutch stops down the stretch, to pick up his third win in a row.
The two teams were tied after one period of play. Rochester got on the board first when they converted on a five-on-three power play after Jordin Tootoo and Pivko both were sent to the box with minor penalties. The Ads had killed off 1:55 of the power play, but Mark Mancari beat Finley at the 17:46 mark of the first.
The Admirals would tie the score less than two minutes later on their own two-man advantage. Pivko took a pass from Beech on top of the right circle and ripped a slap shot that beat Noronen.
In spite of the fact that the Admirals outshot the Americans 11-7 in the second, it was the Amerks who would have a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes. Clarke MacArthur gave Rochester the lead when he scored at 14:39 on assists from Chris Thorburn and Doug Janik.
The Ads make a trip to Peoria for a 7:00 pm contest tomorrow night before taking on the Chicago Wolves at 4:00 pm on Sunday at the Bradley Center. Five former super stars from the AWA will be on hand to sign autographs for fans. For tickets fans can call Ticketmaster at (414) 276-4545 or log on to www.ticketmaster.com.
