Syracuse Crunch News Release
WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON, Pa. - After going down by two in the second period, the Syracuse Crunch were unable to build momentum off Corey Conacaher's power-play tally and fell to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 3-1, tonight at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
The Crunch move to 2-2-0-0 on the season, while the Penguins advance to 2-1-0-0.
Adam Wilcox stopped 28-of-31 shots between the pipes for the Crunch. His counterpart, Casey DeSmith, turned aside 26-of-27. Crunch special teams were highly effective with the team going 1-for-5 on the power play and a perfect 8-for-8 on the penalty kill.
After a scoreless first period, the Penguins took a quick 2-0 lead with a pair of shorthanded breakaway goals in the middle frame. At the 8:11 mark, Josh Archibald chipped the puck out of the defensive zone for Kevin Porter to pick up at center ice, carry down and send past Wilcox. Two minutes later, Porter did it again unassisted.
Conacher stole one back for the Crunch at 10:51 with a power-play marker. He received a pass from Ben Thomas and fired from the top of the left circle to put Syracuse on the board. Adam Erne recorded the secondary helper.
The Penguins added an insurance goal with 4:15 remaining in the third period to secure a win. Dominik Simon went bar down off assists from Porter and Reid Gardiner to take a 1-0 lead in the six-game season series.
The Crunch are back in action on Friday, Oct. 28 when they travel to face the Binghamton Senators.
Ticket packages for the 2016-17 season are on sale now and can be purchased either in person at the Crunch office located in the War Memorial Arena at 800 S.
