Ontario, CA - The Ontario Reign, proud American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL), take on the San Jose Barracuda tonight at 6:00 p.m. at Citizens Business Bank Arena. Tonight is the first of eight regular-season meetings between the two teams.
Opening Weekend Celebration:
After a wild 6-5 overtime victory over the Texas Stars last night at Citizens Business Bank Arena, the Reign continue their Opening Weekend Celebration tonight. Rivalry Renewed:
Last season, the Reign went 9-3-0-0 against the Barracuda and defeated their Pacific Division rivals in the Pacific Division Semifinals of the Calder Cup Playoffs (3-1 in best-of-five). Forward Sean Backman led the Reign against the Barracuda with four goals and seven assists for 11 points.
Backman Hits Milestone:
Reign forward Sean Backman skated in his 350 AHL game last night against the Texas Stars. Over the 350, the White Plains, New York, native has 68 goals and 99 assists for 167 points.
Mersch Turns 50:
Forward Michael Mersch scored his 50 AHL goal last night against the Stars and is four points away from 100 in his pro career (51 goals, 45 assists).
Milestone Watch:
Forward T.J. Hensick is two games away from 650 in his pro career and forward Michael Latta is two games from 300 professional contests.
