Syracuse Crunch News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch were downed by the Bridgeport Islanders, 5-2, tonight at Total Mortgage Arena.
The Crunch have dropped back-to-back games and move to 28-22-5-3 on the season. Syracuse and Bridgeport split the two-game season series with one win each.
Goaltender Max Lagace stopped 34-of-38 shots in net for the Crunch. Jakub Skarek turned aside 28-of-30 between the pipes for the Islanders.
The Syracuse power play went 2-for-5, while Bridgeport converted on 1-of-2 man-advantages.
The Crunch opened scoring with a power-play goal just 3:04 into the game. Gabriel Dumont won the draw in the right circle and sent the puck back for Trevor Carrick to score with a slap shot.
Bridgeport tied the game halfway through the second period when Andy Andreoff was down low to jam the puck into the net. Four minutes later, the Islanders took the lead. Lagace made the stop on Samuel Bolduc's long left-point shot, but left the rebound out for Jeff Kubiak to chip in. Andreoff potted his second of the game on the breakaway late in the frame to put the Islanders up, 3-1.
The Islanders extended their lead 5:24 into the final frame when Chris Terry fired in a one-timer from the bottom of the right circle while on the man-advantage. Syracuse scored their second power-play goal late in the game when Rudy Balcers grabbed the puck right off the face off and sent it in to come back within two, but 28 seconds later, Andreoff registered his hat trick with an empty-netter to lock in a Bridgeport victory.
The Crunch return home to host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins tomorrow.
