Countdown To Face-Off

Divisional foes will square-off as the Kalamazoo Wings host the Wheeling Nailers. Tonight is the third encounter of the season between the K-Wings and Nailers. Kalamazoo has been victorious in both of the previous contests, including a 7-3 victory in their last meeting at Wings Stadium on December 12th.

Looking to unwrap a victory the day after Christmas, Kalamazoo returns from the holiday break earning points in six of their last seven games (4-1-2-0). With 35 points, Kalamazoo is tied with the Cincinnati Cyclones for first place honors in the North Division and are one point ahead of Toledo, who is in third.

Concluding a four-game road swing, Wheeling, who is 1-2-0-0 during the trip, are looking pull even on the swing before heading home tomorrow. With two wins in their last six games, the Nailers find themselves in fourth place in the North six points behind the Walleye for third place and seven points out of first.

Swapping Players

Earlier in the week, the San Jose Sharks returned goaltender Ryan Nie and reassigned defenseman Will Colbert to Kalamazoo. San Jose also called-up goaltender Tyson Sexsmith and defenseman Mitch Versteeg to Worcester of the American Hockey League.

Mason Placed on IR

Defenseman Jeff Mason has been placed on the K-Wings' 3-Day IR. In a separate transaction, the K-Wings have activated forward Mathieu Curadeau from the injured-reserve list.

Seventh Heaven

Kalamazoo's Rick Cleaver enters the night on a seven-game point streak. Cleaver, who has earned 12 points (3 goals, 9 assists) during his current run, has tied the K-Wings' season-high for consecutive games with a point shared by Sam Ftorek.

New Leader in the Clubhouse

With two goals last Saturday, forward Andrew Fournier now leads the K-Wings with 13 goals. Fournier has been on a tear earning seven points (5 goals, 2 assists) in his last three games.
