Johnstown Chiefs News Release

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs fell to the Trenton Devils by a score of 3-2 on Saturday night at the UPMC Health Plan Ice Rink at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena.

The Chiefs started the game in strong fashion, outshooting the Devils 5-1 in the first five minutes of the game and earning three power play opportunities, including 35 seconds of a 5-on-3. Shortly after the two-man advantage ended Chanse Fitzpatrick netted a power play goal at 9:44. Set up by Mike Bartlett and Dan Collins, it was Fitzpatrick's 15th of the season and second with the Chiefs in as many games. Trenton responded with a pair of goal from Jeff Prough, though, in a span of 2:42 to take a 2-1 lead. In spite of a 16-10 shot advantage, the Chiefs could only put one puck past Dave Caruso who made his second appearance of the season against the Chiefs.

In the second, the Chiefs continued their shot barrage, but found Caruso as tough to beat as before. It would be Justin Pender to score next, potting his fourth of the season, on the power play, to give the Devils a two-goal lead 7:30 into the second. Jim McKenzie turned the momentum back in the Chiefs' favor by responding with a power play goal of his own. After a Trevor Hendrikx shot was sticked away by Caruso, McKenzie snared the rebound and wrapped it into the net for his eighth of the season.

Down one at the start of the third the Chiefs killed off 1:43 of a Trenton power play and mounted the attack. After 11 more shots, though, it still wasn't enough as Caruso picked up his second win of the season against the Chiefs.

Kris Mayotte took the loss in net for the Chiefs turning in 26 saves while the Chiefs power play went 2-for-9 and the penalty kill went 7-for-8.
