Countdown to Face-Off (Preseason)
October 8, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
The ECHL preseason will heat up tonight as the Kalamazoo Wings square off against the Toledo Walleye in the first half of a home-and-home series. Last season, the K-Wings captured the season series over the Walleye with a record of 7-4-2-0.
Off the heels of their Red and Blue Showcase and Scrimmage, the K-Wings are poised to face their first real competition of the preseason. After tonight, the K-Wings will conclude the preseason schedule tomorrow night in Toledo.
While the K-Wings are set for their first game of the preseason, the Walleye already have a game under their belts. Last Wednesday, Toledo earned their first win of the preseason with a 4-3 victory at the Cambria County War Memorial in Johnstown, Pennsylvania against the Wheeling Nailers.

Lucky Number 13
The K-Wings enter training camp with a familiar feel. Kalamazoo has 13 players on their training camp roster that were members of the K-Wings last season.
Fulton Nabs Hat Trick
In Wednesday's night's Blue-Red Showcase, forward Jordan Fulton netted three goals to help the Blue to a 6-5 victory over the Red. Entering his rookie campaign, Fulton was a four-year standout at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
Roster Moves
Earlier this week, the K-Wings trimmed down their roster to 28 players. On Tuesday, Kalamazoo released forward Todd Chinova; two days later the K-Wings waived goaltender Ryan Gregory.
New Rules
During all preseason games involving Kalamazoo and Toledo, the ECHL will be experimenting with three new rules. Tonight's game will feature hybrid icing, icing will also be in effect on teams that are shorthanded and send the puck down the length of the ice and the final change to the preseason will be overtime, which will be a 3-minute 3x3 sudden death overtime period. Additionally, during the entire overtime session, teams will switch ends at the conclusion of the third period, therefore creating the long line change for the entire overtime session. If the game remains tied after both overtime periods the game will proceed to a shootout as normal.
