Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers announced today that they have named Alex Reed as the new voice of the Nailers for the 2010-11 season. Reed replaces former team broadcaster Bob Rotruck who accepted the same position with the Adirondack Phantoms of the AHL this summer.
Reed, a native of Virginia, comes to the Nailers from the Lewiston MAINEiacs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League where he was the team broadcaster for the past three seasons.
Before joining the MAINEiacs, Reed attended Marshall University in Huntington, WV where he received a Masters degree in Journalism in 2007. While at Marshall, Alex was the play by play announcer for the Thundering Herd's football, basketball, baseball, and softball teams while also handling the duties of station manager and sports director for WMUL-FM in Huntington.
"I am grateful for the opportunity that Rob and Jim Brooks have given me. This is a big step for me in my career, and the chance to return to the state where my broadcasting career began excites me. The Nailers have a great tradition in the ECHL, and I look forward to being a part of that." Said Reed.
During his time at Marshall Alex received the 2005 Outstanding Sports Operation Award, 2005-2006 Best Sports Play by Play Award, 2005-2006 Sportscaster of the Year Award and 2006 Broadcast Journalist of the Year Award from the West Virginia Associated Press.
The Wheeling Nailers will open their 19th season of professional hockey in the Ohio Valley on Friday October 15th against the Toledo Walleye. Ticket packages for the 2010-2011 season are on sale now.
