October 8, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Elmira Jackals News Release
Elmira, N.Y. - The Elmira Jackals earned a victory in their final preseason game of 2010 on Friday night, outshooting the Trenton Devils 50-16 on the way to a 4-2 win. The Jackals now head to the 2010-2011 regular season, taking on the Cincinnati Cyclones in the home opener next Friday at First Arena.
Adam Perry, making his Jackals preseason debut, scored a pair of goals to lead Elmira with his first coming at 13:34 of the first period when he knocked home a loose puck at the top of the crease past Devils goaltender Jeff Lerg for the 1-0 lead. Oren Eizenman and Brock McBride contributed assists on the play.
The Devils found the scoreboard late in the first period when Ryan Hayes knocked home a backdoor feed from Darcy Zajac to even the game 1-1 at 19:18.
Justin Donati gave the Jackals the lead for good at 3:25 of the second period, chipping in a puck from the left circle on a play started by R.J. Anderson to make it 2-1 in favor of Elmira.
With the Jackals short handed later in the period, Perry and Yannick Tifu combined to make it 3-1. Tifu fed Perry breaking out of the zone, and then Perry knocked in a rebound off a blocked pass past Lerg at 8:03 to give Elmira a two-goal lead.
The Jackals added another goal in the third period, when Dustin Cameron's sharp-angle bid from the right goal line snuck past Lerg at 1:56 to make it 4-1 Elmira.
The Devils struck late in the game on a nice individual effort by Matt Lombardi, who used strength from the left circle to get around a defenseman and get to the net to eventually beat Jackals goaltender Shane Connelly glove side to finish the game's scoring at 15:42 of the final frame.
Connelly stopped 16 of 18 Devils shots for the win while Lerg made 46 saves on 50 Jackals attempts in the Trenton loss.
