Countdown to Face-off Kalamazoo Wings Vs Quad City Mallards Wings Stadium Kalamazoo, MI Friday, March 7, 2003 7:30 PM
Game Preview The K-Wings and the Mallards will finish off the second half of their home and home series tonight, as Kalamazoo host Quad City at Wings Stadium. Quad City came back from a first period three goal deficit to defeat Kalamazoo 5-4 in Moline, Illinois, last Wednesday.
The K-Wings enter tonight's game on a 2 game home winning streak, and just 4 points behind the Flint Generals for the final playoff spot in the UHL. Kalamazoo is in fourth place in the Western Conference, 1 point ahead of the Rockford IceHogs. While K-Wing Mark Vilneff's 7 game point streak came to an end on Wednesday, there are some K-Wing players that have streaks coming into tonight's game. Forwards Mark Lawrence, Yannick Carpeniter, and Kurt Miller all carry 5 game point streaks into the game. Shawn Roed is on a K-Wings season high 6 game goal streak, the streak is one of the UHL season high of 7 games set by Muskegon Andrew Luciuk. Not to be undone, tonight could be a big night for Chad Alban. The K-Wings goaltender, and reigning Goaltender of the Week needs just 1 victory to reach 100 for his career.
The Mallards are sitting atop the UHL's Western Conference standings with 75 points, 4 points ahead the Missouri River Otters, and 5 points in front of the Muskegon Fury. The Mallards enter Wings Stadium on a 3 game winning streak, and are fresh off ending the K-Wings 4 game winning streak in Moline, Illinois. Quad City will be without the services of Kerry Toperowski, who is serving game 4 of a 4 game UHL suspension. Tonight, also marks the return to Wings Stadium for Jeff Reynaert. The former K-Wings and Western Michigan Bronco started the season with Kalamazoo before being traded to the Mallards in January for Dan Hodge and Shawn Roed.
