
Jackals Finish Homestand 3-1-1 After Shootout Loss To Adirondack

The Elmira Jackals tried to find a fourth victory in their fifth consecutive home game, but came up short in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Adirondack IceHawks on Friday night at the Coach USA Center before 4,054 fans.
Adirondack would open the scoring just :29 into the game when Hugo Belanger scored on the power play from James Patterson and J.C. Ruid. The âHawks ended up with the man advantage when Jeremy Symington played the puck over the glass and into the crowd, picking up a delay of game penalty. Belanger's shot from the point Symington between the legs for a 1-0 lead, with no further scoring in the period.
Dominic Chiasson notched his 51st goal of the year 33 seconds into the second stanza to grab Adirondack a 2-0 lead. But the Jackals finally found the net, and did so with a vengeance, scoring three times in 1:18. Glenn Stewart scored at 12:18 on the power play from Trevor Burgess and Randy Murphy to make it 2-1, and Mike Hofstrand tied the game from Rob Guinn and David Lessard 39 seconds later. Elmira took their first lead of the game at 13:36 as Stewart struck again, his 29th of the year from Murphy and Aaron Phillips. After the third goal, Martin Villeneuve was lifted in favor of Jason Wolfe after giving up three goals on four shots in that 1:18 span.
Third period action opened with Alex Dumas scoring for the IceHawks to forge a 3-3 tie at 2:44 from Chiasson and Frank Littlejohn, but Elmira would regain the lead at 14:46 on Mike Thompson's 18th of the season from Hofstrand and Lessard. The goal was the Jackals' second of the night with the man advantage. Bogdan Rudenko evened the game up for Adirondack just 18 seconds later when he scored his 29th of the year from Belanger and Dumas. Regulation ended tied at 4-4, and in the shootout, Adirondack scored on all three attemps on Symington while Wolfe stopped all three shooters faced for the win.
The Jackals will complete a home and home with the IceHawks tomorrow night at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Game time is 7:30 pm, with pre-game show starting at 7 pm on WiNGZ 104.9. The next Jackals home game will be on March 21st against Kalamazoo at 7 pm.
