Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. – March 7, 2003 – Long Beach Ice Dogs Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach Kevin Kaminski announced today that the Ice Dogs have traded the rights of Jeff Ewasko to the Idaho Steelheads to complete the trade from Feb. 21, 2003, that sent Sean Austin to Long Beach for future considerations.

Ewasko, 26, was suspended by the Ice Dogs on Jan. 6 for leaving the team. In 25 games with the Ice Dogs, the Sherwood Park, Alberta native registered six goals and 10 points before his departure. He accumulated 130 penalty minutes (PIM)—fifth highest in the West Coast Hockey League through Jan. 10, 2003—and was suspended by the league six times.

The 25-year old Austin has not played in the last two games due to injury. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Austin has played in five games with the Ice Dogs since his acquisition, recording one assist. He played in 14 games with the Steelheads this season, recording one assist and four PIM's.

The Ice Dogs visit the Anchorage Aces tonight (8 p.m. PT). It is the first of a three-game series, which concludes on Sunday, Mar. 9.
