March 7, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - Stingy defense, good goaltending and timely offense helped the Idaho Steelheads cool off the West Coast Hockey League's hottest team as Idaho beat the Bakersfield Condors 2-1 Friday night at the Bank of America Centre before 4,873. The WCHL's first place Steelheads are now 43-12 4, and 6-4-0 against the Condors this season.

The only scoring of the first period came from Bakersfield when Idaho goaltender Jason Cugnet left his net and got caught up with J.J. Wrobel. Wrobel managed to get the puck over to Paul Willett who scored on the empty net at 15:40.

The Steelheads had a couple of power play opportunities in the second but couldn't capitalize. However, they would finally notch their first tally of the game with an even-strength goal at 18:32. A.J. Begg worked the corner, dug the puck out and got it over to Scott Burt who shot it in and got a deflection off of Dan Shermerhorn who was standing in front of the crease.

Adam Copeland scored what proved to be the game-winner for Idaho at 9:22 of the third. He wrapped it around the net and backhanded one past Kevin St. Pierre. Scott Swanson and Joe Rybar recorded the assists on the goal.

Shots on goal were 32-26 in Idaho's favor. Idaho went 0-3 on the power play and Bakersfield went 0-1. Jason Cugnet moved past Bakersfield's Kevin St. Pierre's and took over the league-lead in wins at 30.

The two teams meet up for their final game at the Bank of America Centre tomorrow night. Puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
