Bakersfield Condors News Release
Boise, Idaho â Adam Copeland's wraparound goal with 10:38 remaining in the game snapped a 1-1 tie and gave the Idaho Steelheads a 2-1 victory in front of 4,873 fans at the Bank of America Centre in Boise on Friday night.
The first period was quick, with only one penalty called and relatively few stoppages of play. Paul Willett gave the Condors the lead late in the period, though, as he extended his point streak to seven games with his 21st of the season. J.J. Wrobel intercepted a pass from netminder Jason Cugnet, who was caught out of the net and could only watch as Willett banged the puck into the empty net at 15:40. The first period ended 1-0.
It looked as if the score would remain 1-0 through two periods, but a redirection by Dan Shermerhorn evened the score late. With just 1:28 remaining in the middle frame, Scott Burt's shot from the right point was tipped past Condors goalie Kevin St. Pierre for his 24th of the season. Shots on goal through two periods were 26-16 in favor of the Steelheads.
The Condors had numerous opportunities during the third period, but could get nothing past Cugnet. The mustered 10 shots on goal in the final stanza, all turned aside. The Steelheads pushed in front for the first time in the game at the 9:22 mark, as Adam Copeland lifted home a wraparound tally to make it 2-1. Bakersfield couldn't get moving after that, and the Steelheads took the one-goal victory.
The Condors play another on Saturday night from Idaho, starting at 6:05pm (PST). They return home on Sunday to host the Fresno Falcons at 5:00pm at Centennial Garden. That game is Poster Giveaway Night, sponsored by the Spanish Radio Group and the Water Association of Kern County. All fans in attendance will receive a full-color poster featuring five member of this year's squad. There will be a Family Fiesta on the Garden Plaza starting at 4:00pm, and a "Skate with the Condors" exclusively for season ticket holders after the game.
