Kane County Cougars News Release
Geneva, IL - The Kane County Cougars and Dayton Dragons combined for 107 at-bats, 37 strikeouts and 21 hits Thursday night at Elfstrom Stadium, as the Cougars walked off with a 15-inning, 4-3 win that took over four hours to finish. Steve Kleen's single scored Jeff Baisley with the victorious tally that gave Brad Kilby the relief win.
Jeff Baisley delivered a first-inning sacrifice fly off Dragons starter Travis Wood for a 1-0 game. Then Wes Long's run-producing bunt single in the second added to the advantage, and Baisley drove in Justin Sellers with a fifth-inning double for a 3-0 game.
The only blemish against Cougars starter Ron Madej was an unearned run in the top of the sixth. The southpaw allowed two hits, walked four and fanned six. He left in line for the win before Jeff Gray, who had held Dayton scoreless in the seventh and eighth, allowed a pair of ninth-inning runs that continued the game.
Ben Jukich made his Cougars debut with 5 1/3 innings of sparkling shutout ball to keep the game knotted at 3-3, and Brad Kilby continued it by striking out the side in the top of the 15th. Baisley doubled off Damian Ursin to start the bottom half, and Jose Pineda poked a single through the right side when the Dragons were trying to intentionally walk him. That set up Kleen's singled that ended the marathon.
Kilby (2-1) got the win, and Ursin (0-1) took the loss. The Cougars (9-6) now head to Fort Wayne to face the Wizards Friday night at 6 CDT.
