Devil Rays sweep Timber Rattlers

Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release


The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays earned their first four game sweep of the year as they defeated the Timber Rattlers by a score of 5-2. The D-Rays have now won six straight after dropping eight consecutive to improve their record to 7-8 in the second half.

Greg Reinhard took the mound for the Rays on Thirsty Thursday and earned the win. Reinhard tossed 5.1 innings with only one hit allowed. The lone hit was a solo homer to left field by Robert Hudson in the top of the fourth inning. Reinhard walked Luis Valbuena in the top of the sixth. Reinhard was pulled after the walk but Valbuena eventually scored. Greg was credited with two earned runs and he struck out seven T-Rats.

Reinhard was relieved by Chris Kelly who finished out the sixth inning. Kelly allowed one hit (to score Reinhard's batter) and had one strikeout.

Aaron Walker tossed the seventh and eighth frames allowed two hits with one strikeout. Mr. Automatic, Greg Dupas, hurled a perfect ninth with a couple of K's. Dupas is now second in the Midwest League in saves with 20.

Matt Devins was the designated hitter on Thursday night. In the bottom of the seventh, Devins hit a single up the middle with runners on second and third. Both runners scored to put the game out of reach. Devins was named player of the game and finished 2-4 with two RBI and one run scored.

The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays now travel to Burlington for a four game set against the Bees. They return home on Wednesday, July 12th to start a three game series against the West Michigan White Caps.
