Kane County Cougars News Release
LANSING, Mich. - After a 5-0 defeat Sunday afternoon against the Lansing Lugnuts, the Kane County Cougars' streak of losing series ran to six. The Cougars fell in the finale of a three-game set in front of 8,412 at Oldsmobile Park, and Jeremy Barfield's eighth-inning single represented the team's' only hit. They were blanked for the 11th time this season and the eighth in the 2nd half. The Cougars were also held to one hit July 20 in West Michigan.
Anvioris Ramirez (1-1) turned in a quality start but suffered the loss. He gave up three runs -- two in the first and one in the fifth -- on eight hits over six innings. Jose Guzman yielded one run in 1 1/3 innings, and Josue Selenis served up one in 2/3 of a frame.
The Cougars, who had 10-plus hits in each of the first two games of the series, did not get a player on base against Joel Carreno (1-2) until the top of the sixth when Dusty Napoleon led off with a walk. Then with one out in the eighth Barfield singled to right for what became the club's only hit. Carreno departed after the hit, and Jason Roenicke recorded the final five outs to end it.
The Cougars (16-20, 57-49) continue their 10-game road trip Monday night at 7:05 CT with the start of a four-game series against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (14-21, 48-57). Mathieu Leblanc-Poirier (2-5, 4.96) is scheduled to pitch against R.J. Seidel (0-0, 4.32).
