Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
Today's Game: The TinCaps and Snappers finish a 3G series at Parkview Field, part of a 10G homestand for Fort Wayne.
Last Night: The TinCaps came back to win a thriller, 6-5. Fort Wayne was down 4-0 after the top of the 1st but battled back and scored three in the bottom of the 9th. Daniel Robertson's two-run single up the middle was the game-winner.
Season Series: Fort Wayne took 2 of 3 from Beloit at Pohlman Field in late May. In Game 1, the Snappers led 7-0 through three innings. The TinCaps came back to tie it at 7-7 but the Snappers blew it open late for a 14-9 win. Alexander Soto hit 2HR and had 5RBIs. In Game 2, the TinCaps had a 6-0 lead until Beloit put up a five-spot in the bottom of the 8th; Fort Wayne held on to win, 7-5. In the final game, the TinCaps led 10-1 until Beloit plated four runs in the 5th; Fort Wayne pulled away for a 13-7 victory. Daniel Robertson went 7x12 in the series with a triple and 2HR, driving in seven.
Tonight's Starting Pitchers: The TinCaps send RH Simon Castro to the mound against Beloit RH Brad Tippett.
Castro, who celebrated his 21st birthday Opening Day, makes his 21st start of the season. He had a breakout campaign in 2008 with Short-Season Eugene, going 2-3 with a 3.99ERA but holding hitters to just a .223BAA. He was the Emeralds' Opening Day starter in 2008 and is the Padres' #14 prospect entering the year according to Baseball America.
Tippett, 21, makes his 18th start of the year. The Australian is 5th in the MWL with a 2.46ERA and had a strong July, going 3-1, 1.57ERA in 5GS. He had one of his roughest starts of the year his last time out (Tuesday at Great Lakes) going 4.2IP 8H 7R (3ER) 1BB 4K in an 8-5 loss. From Sydney, Tippett signed with the Twins in 2006 at the age of 17. He didn't start playing organized baseball until the age of 12. He also played soccer and cricket growing up. Tippett was on Team Australia's provisional roster for the World Baseball Classic but did not make the final roster. He was a reliever his first two seasons and opened last year in the Beloit bullpen, but went to Elizabethton (8-3, 2.55ERA) and been in the starting rotation ever since.
TinCaps League Leaders: Fort Wayne is 3rd in the MWL in AVG (.266), 1st in runs scored (568), tied for 2nd in HR (76), 7th in SB (103) and 1st in walks (537)... The next closest team in the MWL in walks is Wisconsin with 369... The team ERA of 3.23 is 2nd... The fielding percentage (.974; 103E in 105G) is 3rd... Daniel Robertson is 5th in AVG (.320) and 3rd in OBP (.406)... Erik Davis is tied for 3rd in wins (10)... Simon Castro is 1st in K (119)... Brad Brach is 1st in the MWL and tied for 2nd in MiLB in SV (27) and is 1st in the MWL in appearances (47)... Zach Herr and Alexis Lara are tied for 2nd in appearances (40)... Jaff Decker is 1st in OBP (.448) and 3rd in SLG (.524)... Allan Dykstra is 1st in MiLB in walks (86).
