
Kernels fall to Whitecaps, 3-2

August 1, 2009 - The West Michigan Whitecaps scored the final three runs to take the second game of their three game series with the Kernels, 3-2. Tyson Auer led the Kernel offense, going 2-4 with a double, RBI and stolen base as Alexi Amarista went 1-4 with an RBI.
Kernels starter Tyler Chatwood scattered two hits over five scoreless innings, walking two and striking out five in a no-decision effort. Kyle Hurst (1-1) was tagged with the loss, allowing three runs on three hits over 2 innings and Nick Pugliese struck out two over an inning pitched. West Michigan reliever Victor Larez (5-6) picked up the win and Tyler Stohr earned his 16th save.
The Kernels were held to five hits as Gabe Jacobo went 1-4 and Jeff Jones was 1-3. Auer doubled to lead off the ninth and stole third with two outs, but Stohr struck out Angel Castillo to end the game.
