
Bees Allow 7 Runs in First 3 Innings and Lose

Dayton, OH (August 2, 2009) - The Burlington Bees allowed seven runs in the first three innings and lost 7-1 to the Dayton Dragons Sunday afternoon. The Dragons took two out of three from the Bees in the three-game series as the Bees get set to open a four-game series at Clinton on Monday.
The Dragons opened the scoring with one run in the first when Josh Fellhauer led the inning off with a solo homerun. Dayton then broke the game open scoring five runs in the second and then added one more in the third to take a 7-0 lead after three innings.
The Bees scored their only run in the top of the seventh inning. Nick Francis led the inning off with a solo homerun to center field to cut the Bees' deficit to six runs. That was the final run of the day for either team.
Sam Runion got the start for the Bees. Runion only made it through three innings allowing seven runs, six of which were earned, on eight hits and one walk. He took the loss to move to 3-8 this season. Dusty Odenback pitched three shutout innings allowing three hits with two strikeouts and no walks. Blaine Hardy and Barry Bowden each pitched one scoreless inning. Hardy allowed one hit with two strikeouts. Bowden did not allow a hit and had one strikeout.
The Bees were outhit 12-5. Francis was the only Bee with more than one hit going 2-4 with a run and an RBI. His homerun was his 12th of the season. The Bees did turn a season-high five double-plays in the game. The Bees committed the only three errors of the ballgame. The game marked the final game the Bees will play against teams from the eastern division during the regular season. The Bees finished with a 19-17 record against team from the east.
The Bees will open a four-game series at Clinton on Monday evening. Tim Melville is the scheduled starter. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 and the game can be heard on News-Radio 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com. The Bees will return home for a four-game series with Quad Cities on Friday, August 7th.
