Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars saw a five-game winning streak come to an end Tuesday night, as they lost, 5-1, against the Beloit Snappers in front of 6,459 at Elfstrom Stadium. Anthony Capra notched a second straight quality start and the sixth in a row by the Cougars' starting rotation, but the Snappers' two early runs held up in the opener of the four-game set.

Capra (1-2) had one sub-par inning -- the second -- and it cost him. He walked the first two men, and they both came around to score for a 2-0 game. The southpaw worked a 1-2-3 frame in his other five innings, lasting six and yielding just one hit in the loss. He retired the final 14 men he faced. Meanwhile the Cougars were stymied by Beloit starter Henry Reyes (2-0), getting their only run against the lefty in the sixth on a Larry Cobb RBI single, which cut it to 2-1.

Scott Hodsdon, who hadn't pitched for the Cougars since mid-July because of a pectoral injury, tossed two scoreless relief innings in his return, but Chad Kerfoot got touched up for three runs -- two earned -- in the ninth to account for Beloit's 5-1 victory. Santos Arias notched his first Snappers save.

The Cougars (19-24), who have still won eight of their last 11, continue the series with Beloit (22-22) Wednesday night at 6:30 CT. Carlos Hernandez (2-0, 3.65) will face Shooter Hunt (0-1, 0.90).
