Great Lakes Loons News Release
Jon Kibler continues to get better with every start this season for the West Michigan Whitecaps, but it will be tough to get better than his complete-game shutout. Tuesday night, he allowed only two hits and struck out a career-high nine batters en route to a 5-0 win over the Great Lakes Loons in front of 4,815 fans at Dow Diamond Tuesday night.
Kibler was perfect into the seventh inning, until Erik Kanaby broke up his chase to history with a bloop, one-out single that fell just out of the reach of a diving Joe Tucker in left field. Kibler only faced one batter above the minimum in the contest, as he completed the ballgame and recorded his second complete game and first shutout of the season, throwing only 98 pitches.
"It's very good to know that when you throw it over the plate, you know that your defense is going to be there and make the plays behind you," Kibler said after the ballgame. "That's just how I've felt the entire year."
The Whitecaps did all of their scoring in the fifth inning, when they plated five runs in the inning against Loons' reliever Garrett White, highlighted by Kody Kaiser's three-run home run to blow things open and give the Whitecaps more than enough offense in the ballgame.
Kanaby and Alfredo Silverio were the only players with hits for the Loons, as Silverio doubled to center field in the eighth to account for the Loons' second hit of the night.
Kibler picked up the victory, upping his record to 12-4 on the season. White picked up the loss to fall to 2-2 on the year. Loons' pitchers Josh Lindblom, Blake Brannon and Miguel Ramirez combined for seven strikeouts in eight shutout innings.
The Loons and Whitecaps continue their four-game series Wednesday night from Dow Diamond. Wednesday is Bavarian Heritage Night at the ballpark. Game time is 7:05pm. Great seats are still available by logging onto Loons.com, or by calling 989-837-BALL.
The Great Lakes Loons are the second-year Single-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
