South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

South Bend, IN - The South Bend Silver Hawks defeated the Lansing Lugnuts by the score of 3-0 tonight. The score was 0-0 going to the bottom of the 2nd when Matt Oxendine crushed a double that scored Bill Musselman. That was the only run the Hawks needed tonight. Tom Layne (5-3) and company turned in a stellar pitching performance. Layne gave up 0 runs and 3 hits in 6 innings of work. Jeff Dietz and Clay Zavada pitched 3 innings of 1 hit relief. Zavada earns his 4th save of the season and lowers his ERA to 0.90. Taylor Harbin was the leading hitter tonight. Harbin went 3 for 4 with a run scored and RBI. Sean Coughlin and Matt Oxendine had 2 hits and a RBI apiece as well. The Silver Hawks and Lugnuts will play game 2 of their series on Wednesday. Game time is slated for 7:00 PM.
