
Bees Open Big Series against Peoria with a Victory

Peoria, IL (Aug 5, 2008) - The Burlington opened a big division series at Peoria with a 7-4 victory Tuesday night. Mike Moustakas continued his recent torrid hitting as he had two homeruns and four RBI in the game.
Peoria scored the first two runs of the game. In the bottom of the first inning, the Chiefs loaded the bases with no outs and used a sacrifice fly and an RBI ground-out to score the runs to take a 2-0 lead. The Bees then scored seven unanswered runs.
The Bees got on the board in the top of the third inning scoring three runs to take the lead. Against Jon Lieber, who was on a rehab assignment from the Chicago Cubs, David Lough hit a double with one out. Lough then came around to score when Johnny Giavotella singled and the throw from the outfield went wild. Moustakas then came to the plate and hit his first homerun of the day to give the Bees a 3-2 lead.
The Bees added two more runs in both the fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth, Giavotella hit a single with one out before Moustakas hit his second homerun to give the Bees a 5-2 lead. In the sixth with one out, Jamar Walton and Juan Rivera each had a hit. The two runners scored when Lough hit a triple to finish off the scoring for the Bees.
The Chiefs scored a run in both the sixth and ninth innings but lost the ballgame by three runs. Ray Liotta got the start for the Bees. He allowed three runs on seven hits in six innings to pick up his first win. Paul Raglione pitched two innings where he faced the minimum amount of batters and the only runner who reached did so after being hit by a pitch. Zach Peterson pitched the ninth allowing one run.
The Bees outhit Peoria 12-9 in the game. Jamar Walton had three of the Bees' hits while Lough, Giavotella, Moustakas and Rivera each had two hits. Moutstakas and Lough combined for all six of the Bees' RBI with Moustakas having four and Lough having two.
The Bees and Peoria continue the series Wednesday night at O'Brien Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00. Danny Gutierrez is the scheduled starter. The game can be heard on 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com. The Bees return to Community Field on Saturday for a four-game series with Cedar Rapids.
