Kane County Cougars News Release

Lansing, MI - The Kane County Cougars connected for a season-high six runs and 15 hits Tuesday night and made a furious comeback against the Lansing Lugnuts, but it wasn't enough to snap a losing streak that has reach five games. All of Lansing's runs came in a long fifth inning, and the Cougars eventually fell, 7-6, in front of 1,223 fans at Oldsmobile Park.

Haas Pratt's bases-loaded walk against Kyle Ginley in the first inning gave the Cougars and their starter Scott Deal a quick 1-0 lead. Then Alex Valdez singled home Todd Johnson in the fourth for a 2-0 count.

Deal owned a one-hit shutout through four innings but ran into trouble in the fifth, giving up five runs on four hits before leaving. Patrick Currin didn't fare much better, as the Lugnuts rallied for seven runs and sent 11 men to the plate in the inning, turning a 2-0 Cougars lead into a 7-2 deficit. Deal also walked three and struck out two in 4 1/3 innings.

The Cougars' offense went to work in the sixth when Jermaine Mitchell drove in his first run of the season with a single that plated Johnson. Isaac Omura smashed a two-run double in the seventh and scored on a Gustavo Rosendo to make it 7-6, but that's as close as it got. The Cougars loaded in the bases in the ninth before Mitchell grounded out to close the contest.

Deal (0-1) took the loss, reliever Chris Reddout (1-0) got the win for Lansing, and Edward Rodriguez recorded the save. Game 2 of the four-game series is Wednesday night at 5:05 CDT. The Cougars (1-9) have not yet named a starting pitcher while the Lugnuts (7-1) look to A.J. Wideman (1-0, 1.69).
