Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GRAND CHUTE, WI -- It seemed as if every time the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers made a mistake on Tuesday night the Beloit Snappers took advantage. The Snappers scored three times -- with two of the runs being unearned -- in the top of the sixth inning to erase a 2-0 deficit and they went on to a 5-2 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Tuesday night at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Armando Gabino pitched 3-2/3 innings of scoreless relief for the victory.
Alex Liddi slammed a two-out solo home run to center in with two out in the bottom of the second inning to put the Rattlers in front. Wisconsin (1-7) picked up another run in the bottom of the fifth inning as Andy Hargrove drove in Liddi from third with a single.
Wisconsin starting Tony Butler left after five innings with a chance to pick up the victory. The Oak Creek, Wisconsin native pitched five shutout innings, allowed two hits, walked four and struck out five. But, the Snappers rallied to take the lead in the top of the sixth.
Danny Valencia hit the first pitch from reliever Justin Souza's off the scoreboard above the left center field fence for a homer. Joe Benson was next and his popup on the infield was dropped by second baseman Luis Nunez. Chris Parmelee followed with a triple to rightcenter and the Snappers tied the game 2-2. Greg Yersich drove in Parmelee with a groundout and Beloit had their first lead of the game.
Beloit (4-4) tacked on two more runs in the top of the eighth inning. The Snappers had runners at first and third with one out and Yersich at the plate. Yersich sent a ground ball to short that could have been an inning ending double play. Nunez held on to the throw for the force out, but dropped the ball on the transfer for the throw to first and a run scored to put the Snappers up 4-2. Later in the inning, Yancarlos Ortiz doubled in the final run of the night.
Danny Vais pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth to close out the game.
The Rattlers and Snappers conclude the Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium leg of their home-and-home series on Wednesday afternoon. Chris Tillman (0-1, 4.50) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Adam Hawes (0-1, 3.60) is set to start for Beloit. Game time is 12:05pm.
