
Kernels survive errors for 6-5 win over South Bend

Wilberto Ortiz double in the top of the 11th scored Ryan Mount with the game winning run and Warner Madrigal came on to pick up his first save of the season as the Kernels picked up a 6-5 extra inning win Tuesday night at South Bend.
The win improves the Kernels record to 5-3 and extended their current winning streak to three. South Bend falls to 1-8.
The Kernels set season highs in hits and errors as they pounded out 11 hits but committed five errors. Matt Sweeney went 1-5 to extend his hitting streak to eight games.
Ortinz, Chris Pettit and Ryan Mount each had a double and Peter Bourjos hit his first HR of the season, a two run shot in the top of the fifth.
Kernels starter Sean O'Sullivan gave up six hits over six innings of work in a no-decision effort. He gave up three runs (one earned), two walks and two strikeouts. Doug Brandt (1-0) threw an inning of relief to get the win and Madrigal picked up his first save.
The Silver Hawks spoiled a save chance for Robert Romero as DH Brad Miller hit a two out solo home run to tie the game at 5 in the bottom of the ninth.
The game remained tied until the top of the 11th as Ryan Mount doubled and Stantrel Smith followed with a walk. Bourjous lifted an infield fly to first base for an out, then Ortiz laced his double to left, scoring Mount.
