Dayton Dragons News Release

DAYTON, OH - The Dayton Dragons have played in front of overflow sellout crowds since the franchise's first ever game at Fifth Third Field on April 27, 2000. Tuesday, April 17th, the Dragons played in front of the team's 500th consecutive sellout at Fifth Third Field when Dayton hosted the Swing of the Quad Cities.

The Dragons have led the Midwest League and Class A teams in total and average attendance since the franchise's inception in 2000 and have finished in the top ten in total and average attendance among all Minor League Baseball Teams regardless of classification (160 teams including Double A and Triple A).

"As an organization, we are humbled by the consecutive sellout streak that we have had since the franchise has began play," said Dragons President Robert Murphy. "This is a testament to our fans and to their dedication to baseball in the Miami Valley."

Fifth Third Field, which opened in April of 2000, has 7,230 permanent seats as well as three overflow grass berm seating areas down both the first and third base line as well as in the outfield. Heading into the 2007 season the Dragons have drawn 4,154,012 fans during seven seasons, averaging 8,375 per opening.

By comparison, the Dragons current sellout streak ranks ahead of every other professional sports team (including MLB, NFL, NBA, and NHL). The NHL's Colorado Avalanche had their sellout streak snapped at 487 in October of 2006, paving the way for the Dragons to take the lead.

As Dayton hits the 500 mark, they have already surpassed the Cleveland Indians for the longest sellout streak in baseball history. The Indians sold out 455 straight games at Jacobs Field from 1995 to 2001. The Dragons are also rapidly approaching the top sellout streaks in sports history. Only the NBA's Portland Trail Blazers (814), Boston Celtics (662), and Chicago Bulls (610) had longer streaks in their team's history.

In the first seven seasons of the sellout streak the Dragons have hosted 489 Midwest League regular season games, six Midwest League playoff games and the 2001 Midwest League All-Star game. Dayton set a Midwest League and a Class A attendance record in 2004, drawing 593,663 fans at Fifth Third Field in 71 openings.
