Lansing Lugnuts News Release

LANSING- The Lansing Lugnuts had a seven run outburst in the fifth inning, but had to survive a bases loaded situation in the ninth to pick their sixth consecutive win, a 7-6 decision over the Kane County Cougars Tuesday night before 1,223 fans at Oldsmobile Park.

Trailing 2-0 in the fifth, Lansing had its largest single inning output of the season by plating seven runs. Jonathan Jaspe's RBI single to left-center field scored Matt Liuzza from third to cut the lead to 1-0. After a single and a walk loaded the bases, Scott Campbell dropped a double into left-center field that brought home two runs to give the Lugnuts a 3-2 lead. Yuber Rodriguez followed that up with a two-run double of his own to make it 5-2 in favor of Lansing. Travis Snider and Brian Pettway each added RBI hits of their own to end the scoring barrage and give the Lugnuts a 7-2 lead through five innings.

However the Cougars were able to chip away at the lead. After scoring one run in the sixth to make it 7-3, Kane County pulled within one run by plating three more in the seventh. Isaac Omura's double into right-center field brought home two runs to make it a 7-5 game. Gustavo Rosendo followed that with an RBI single to score Omura.

Kane County had one more chance in the ninth. The Cougars loaded the bases with two men out in the final frame, but Lansing reliever Edward Rodriguez induced a groundout by Jermaine Mitchell on a 3-2 pitch to end the game and pick up his first save of the year.

Chris Reddout (1-0) got the win in relief for the Lugnuts when Kyle Ginley was pulled after just 3 2/3 innings. Reddout went 2 1/3 innings and allowed just one run on five hits.

Scott Deal (0-1) took the loss for the Cougars after surrendering five runs on five hits.

Lansing (7-1) will put the six game win streak on the line Wednesday night at Oldsmobile Park in game two of the series. A.J. Wideman (1-0, 1.69) will hurl for the Lugnuts. Kane County (1-9), which has dropped its last five games, will send Craig Italiano to the hill for his first appearance of the year. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
