June 28, 2007 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, IL - For the second straight night the Kane County Cougars never held a lead and lost to the Burlington Bees, this time 4-3 Thursday night in the finale of a four-game series in front of 7,727 fans at Elfstrom Stadium. Starter James Heuser lasted seven innings but suffered defeat for the first time since late May.
The Bees scored in the first against Heuser for a 1-0 game, but the Cougars answered in the second against Harold Mozingo when Ramiro Mendez doubled and scored on a grounder by Todd Johnson.
Burlington took a third-inning lead on a homer by Michael Thompson and never relinquished that advantage, adding one in the fifth and another in the sixth against Heuser for a 4-1 count. Heuser (6-3) allowed four runs on nine hits, walked none and struck out seven in the loss.
The Cougars battled back with a run in the sixth against Mozingo (7-6) on Greg Dowling's single and got to within one in the ninth versus Chris Hayes when Haas Pratt drove in pinch-runner Sammy Hernandez, but the comeback fell short afterward and Hayes notched his fifth save. The Cougars (2-6) head to Cedar Rapids for a four-game series against the Kernels that starts Friday night at 7 CDT. Trevor Cahill (3-2) will face Tim Schoeninger (9-3).
