Kane County Cougars News Release
PEORIA, Ill. - For the first time this season, the Kane County Cougars failed to score a run in a game. They were shut out, 4-0, on Monday afternoon against the Peoria Chiefs at O'Brien Field, losing for the 14th time in 16 games. Leonel Santiago gave the Cougars their seventh quality start in the last 11 games but took the hard-luck loss.
The Cougars managed only two hits and were unable to take advantage of six walks by Peoria pitchers. Ryan Stovall had a first-inning single, and Yowill Espinal had a third-inning bunt single for the only hits. Cam Greathouse (2-2) got the win for the Chiefs (2-2).
Santiago (2-4) delivered his fifth straight quality start but suffered the defeat. He gave up single runs in the sixth and seventh innings and scattered six hits over seven frames. He also walked two and struck out two. The Cougars' starting rotation has a 1.83 ERA in the last 11 games, but the team is 2-9 in that span. Chas Byrne gave up two relief runs in the eighth to account for the 4-0 final.
