
Captains Win 9-5, Snap Four Game Skid

Lake County Captains News Release
(Lansing, MI)- The Captains behind Mike Rayl snapped a four game losing streak with a 9-5 win over the Lugnuts on Monday night. Rayl the Midwest Pitcher of the Week improved to 4-0 on the season.
Captains go off to a great start scoring twice in the top of the first inning. Carlos Moncrief reached on an infield single to third. Tyler Cannon was hit by a Daniel Webb pitch. Giovanny Urshela drove in the game's first run with a double to left center. Alex Monsalve hit a sacrifice fly to deep centerfield to score Cannon to make it 2-0 Captains.
Lake County kept on attacking in the second inning. Brian Heere slapped a single to right field to start it off. Dwight Childs hit a ball down the line in right; the single put runners on first and third. Nick Bartolone hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Heere. Cannon doubled off the wall in the leftfield to score Childs. Cannon scored the third run of the frame when Urshela reached on an error, making it 5-0 Captains.
Lansing got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning when Marcus Knecht hit a solo homerun to leftfield to make 5-1. It was the first homerun surrendered by Mike Rayl this season.
Alex Monsalve smacked a solo homerun to straight away centerfield in the top of the third inning, his second homerun of the season to push lead to 6-1 Captains.
The Lugnuts touched up Rayl again in the fifth inning, using three hits, one of them an infield single. Carlos Perez drove in a run with an RBI single to leftfield cutting the lead down to 6-2.
In the sixth inning, Moncrief made it 7-2 all on his, reaching on an infield single. Moncrief stole second, reached third on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball.
After a short rain delay, action resumed in the bottom of the sixth and KC Hobson doubled to lead off. Michael Crouse singled to center to score Hobson and it was 7-3.
The Captains picked up a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning to jump up 9-3. Jesus Aguilar tripled to lead off the inning. Anthony Gallas reached on error along Aguilar to score. Heere reached on the third error by Lansing as Gallas scored.
Lansing inched a little closer in the eighth inning, scoring a pair of runs on three hits making it 9-5. Knecht has an RBI single and Balbino Fuenmayor doubled in a run.
Rayl (4-0) picked up the win tossing five innings allowing two runs on six hits, striking out eight. Daniel Webb (2-2) suffered the loss allowing seven runs, five earned in 5.2 innings, walking one and striking out five.
The Captains will continue the road trip on Tuesday night in Dayton at 7:00PM for a three game series with the Dragons. Lake County will start RHP Kyle Blair (2-0) against RHP Daniel Corcino (2-0) for Dayton. Catch all the action on AM1330 WELW or online captainsbaseball.com.
