Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The TinCaps allowed a five-run fifth inning to lose to the South Bend Silver Hawks, Monday at Coveleski Stadium. Jake Blackwood and Wes Cunningham had the RBIs for Fort Wayne.

The loss completed a three-game sweep at the hands of the Silver Hawks in which the TinCaps batted .196.

South Bend jumped ahead in the bottom of the first on back-to-back doubles by Zach Walters and Yazy Arbelo.

In the fifth, RHP Adys Portillo walked Ender Inciarte to load the bases. Mike Freeman followed with a dribbler up the first-base line. Portillo fielded the ball and tried to flip the ball to the plate, but the flip went past the catcher and two runs scored. LHP Noah Mull entered and, after a wild pitch brought Inciarte home, allowed a two-run double to Arbelo to make it 6-0.

The TinCaps got on the board in the sixth. Oscar Garcia reached on a leadoff walk and later scored on an infield hit by Blackwood, making it 6-1.

The Silver Hawks plated a run in the seventh, then the TinCaps finished the scoring in the eighth when Cunningham smacked an RBI single to center.

South Bend RHP Bradin Hagens (2-1) delivered six strong innings to notch up the win; Portillo (0- 5) took the loss.

Fort Wayne dipped to 12-20; South Bend improved to 13-17.

The TinCaps return to Parkview Field to open a six-game homestand against the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Class-A Tampa Bay Rays). Fort Wayne LHP Andrew Werner (1-3) takes the ball against Bowling Green LHP Enny Romero (1-2) in a 7:05 p.m. start on Tuesday. Bishop Luers product OF Kevin Kiermaier is on the Hot Rods' roster.
